1) Do you believe in miracles?
I hope so, I think so. I'm not sure today. I pray so.

2) Name one place that you have been that has felt magical, brought you peace or comforted you?
The planetarium

3) Name one thing you treasure?
My grandmother's jewelry, clothes that I have form after her passing.

4) In one to five words, name one place, person, event or thing that has felt magical to you or cheered your heart.
In a forest in Australia, there was a ledge overlooking the trees, covered in moss. It felt like a fairy-land place.

5) In less than 10 words, if you had one wish to go to somewhere or be with someone, from any time where would it be or who would you visit? (Go with your instinct :) It would either be, to take my now-self back 18 or so years ago to my grandmother's house to visit her. Or it would be to take myself back to the end of January, this year an revel in some of the happiest days of my life. I'd tell myself to make different choices too. (I know that's more than ten ;)

1) Do you like board games? (which ones?)
Yes! I like scrabble and cranium. I loved Candyland as a child.

2) Do you have a favorite sport?
I like watching soccer, but I'm terrible.

3) Have you ever played video games?
When I was very young. I remember Atari and we had the original Nintendo. That's about it.

4) What was your favorite game as a child?
I don't know? I loved reading, which isn't a game but it was my favorite activity.

5) Did you like playing make-believe?
Yes! I think it was very therapeutic for me.

I like the city for it's diversity and the country for it's quiet beauty.

Yes, but I'm not very good.

I would want children with the right partner.

4) Can you name something you think is beautiful in your life?
Leaves swaying.

5) Do you ever meditate or follow the breathe that gives you life? Let's do it all now together! (inhale, ahhh, exhale :)
I try to I don't do it enough. Right now....ahhhh deep breathe.

Friday Five of the Elements

Our Friday Five

1) Do you have a favorite element? Is so, what is it?
Hmmm... I like them all, metal is probably my least favorite, but it's dominant in my Taoist astrological chart, go figure.

2) What's the weather like where you live? (hot, sunny, wet, dry, windy or cold, etc.)
It's pretty hot right now. Dry and hot with the fires. Of course, in Santa Monica, where I often am, it is moist too. In the mornings and evenings there is often an ocean fog or mist hanging in the air.

3) Do you like to swim in the ocean?
I do! I like swimming far out where it's calmer.

4) Did you study chemistry in school? Did you like it?
Yes and yes.

5) Do the elements show up in your spiritual life or religion? (symbolic candles, the smoke of incense, the cleansing of water, or a connection to the land)
We light three special candles on the altar in my Tao practice and the I Ching is all contains the elements as combinations of yin and yang. My family is Jewish and of course there are many symbolic candles and lights.

1) What's the last movie you watched?
Ooh! Ponyo! Everyone go see it and SMILE. It's full of joy, magic and wonder.

2) What's the last book, comic, poem or story you read for fun?
I reread the last Harry Potter Book, the Deathly Hallows. And, I read Romance Sonambulo by Federico Garcia Lorca, dark but gorgeous. Google it and read it in Spanish and English. Even if you don't know Spanish, the music of it is captivating.

3) Do you like to go to the theatre?
Yes oh yes! I wish I went more. I last saw the Tempest at a Shakespeare in the Park event. It rocked. If you live in LA go see the Independent Shakespeare Company.

4) Do you watch t.v.? If so, what shows?
I watch a little t.v., mostly online. I like the Daily Show.

5) Who makes you laugh? Do you have a favorite comedian or just a really funny friend?
Eddie Izzard is my favorite comedian. Check out Dressed to Kill, his HBO special, rentable on Netflix.

1) What have you seen today that is beautiful?
Photos of flowers online and the eyes of a person I love.

2) Who in your life is beautiful inside and out?
Many people, my sister, my uncle, my boyfriend, many of my friends. My grandma was a master of being beautiful inside and out.

3) What part(s) of nature do you find beautiful?
I love looking up at the trees from below and seeing the leaves silhouetted against the sky, but of course, so many things.

4) Is there a piece of music or song(s) you think are beautiful?
I have been enjoying Carlos Nakai's flute music.

5) What color(s) are most beautiful to you?
I love all vivid colors, they affirm life.

1) Who is one person in your life has helped you grow?
My friend and qi gong teacher Young.

2) Do you meditate?
Actually I don't, maybe I should start.

3) Do you have a daily/ weekly practice or do you just go with the flow?
I have a coach/ counselor friend and we talk each week. Other than that I go with the flow and try to incorporate healthy and relaxing practices into each day.

4) What book(s) have helped you better understand yourself, life or people?
I'm reading the Road Less Traveled and it's awesome. I love psychology and it's really helping me understand human beings, including me.

5) What is one (or two) things you like to do to expand your horizons? (meet new people, travel, go on retreat, read new books, watch inspiring films)
I like to meet new people, read new books and try to understand the way the human mind functions.

I love the Big Lebowski.

Sometimes, although not if it's mean. I like silly and witty humor more.

My sister and I always laugh when we're together.

I definitely have laughed till I cried and when I was little, I am sure I laughed liquid out of my nose.

Friday Five of Sleep

1) How many hours of sleep do you usually get each night?
Lately, very few. I've been up late working and up early too! I like a good eight hours, but that hasn't been in the cards.

2) Are you a morning or night person?
A night person, definitely, since I was a kid. I have tried to be a morning person and force myself, but left to my own natural devices I stay up past 12 or 1am.

3) Do you remember your dreams? Are they vivid or fuzzy?
I have a lot of dreams and usually remember bits and fuzzy pieces.

4) When is the last time you stayed up all night?
This week, last night in fact.

5) Can you sleep anywhere, or do you need to be all cozied-up just right in your own bed?
I love a cozy bed, but a comfy couch will do. I love my blankets! I don't like the floor or outdoor sleeping unless it's on a sunny warm day with a picnic blanket and a cat-nap.

Yes, but mostly for the picnic food and fireworks.

Potato salad.

Yes, I like the Daily Show and the BBC for news.

Yup.

Maybe, but probably not since I'm not a white man ;)

Friday Five of Soothing

1) What music soothes you? (an artist, genre, song, etc.)
I love Carlos Nakai, who does Native American flute music. I also like the Killer's When You Were Young right now, played loud and cathartic.

2) Do you use scents for relaxation, if so which ones? (essential oils, bath salts, food, candles)
I love candle and bath salts with things like ylang-ylang and mint. I like cooking as creative expression, the smell of vanilla always gets me.

3) Do you ever get massage, acupuncture or do yoga?
I try to get massage regularly for health reasons.

4) Which friend(s) or family members do you go to for support and love?
I go to my sister and my fella Eric. I also talk to my aunt and uncle sometimes.

5) If you could go anywhere to relax where would it be?
Somewhere warm and beautiful. Maybe a jacuzzi with aromatic scents emanating or a natural place that's breathtaking. If I could be transported to fall in the northeast I'd like that too.

Sometimes. I hope there are angels out there watching over us.

2) What is your favorite magical creature? (unicorn, phoenix, gnomes, pegasus)
I like gnomes and phoenixes. Gnomes because they are little and homey like me and phoenixes because I am always aspiring to renew.

3) Did you believe in the tooth fairy, Santa or the Easter Bunny as a child?
I loved the idea of them, but I never really bought it.

4) Do you believe in fairies? (clap your hands ;)
Yes! (clap, clap, clap!)

5) Do you like fairy tales or fantasy stories?
I Iove them. I like the imagination, beauty and mythology.

Hmmmm, I think the last film I saw in the theatre was Star Trek, which as good, but not as good as Wolverine.

2) What was one of your favorite films as a child?
Labyrinth was my favorite film. It was full of magic, singing and it's a good story about facing your fears. I look back and think David Bowie looked silly in spandex, but hey, it's David Bowie.

3) Do you like scary movies?
Not at all.

4) What type(s) of films do you like best? (comedy, documentary, history)
I like documentaries, comedies and movies that are a bit lighter.

I love Spirited Away.

Yes! I love it. I think it's a grat way to celebrate existence.

I do. I love color and light.

I like a big part with good food and great friends.

Yes I do. It's a good reminder that we're all part of something, that the Earth is our home and we need to take care of it.

Yes. I like bright greens.

Awesome, complex, strange, wondrous, challenging and interesting place.

Wet, vast, mysterious.

My favorite thing is being vegetarian. It is good for the environment, our fellow Earthy animals and for me!
