Poetry: Rebirth

“My love is my soul’s imagination”

Yesterday I watched Slam, the movie with Saul Williams and oh…

Oh man…

I had forgotten about poetry, not that it exists or that I love it, but rather how it stirs every sense of my being and sets me on fire. I’d forgotten those words that blossom like lotus petals and reverberate with the heavens.

I have loved poetry for a long time. Good poetry makes my eyes bug out and my skin tingle. Saul Williams certainly qualifies as good poetry. His words come from a higher level. His mind is astounding. I usually have to listen to a piece twice before the meanings begin to be clear in my mind. His work is spiritual. He talks about the eternal and speaks to the essence of a person.

I want to thank him for my reawakening to this love.

My dear friend CJ is a poet. He is so talented, and though his work sometimes goes places I’d rather not, he can spin rhymes and create vision in a way that’ll leave you open-mouthed and joyous. He reminded me also of these sweet songs long forgotten.

What is this poetry? It’s like any art. It’s a medium. You can paint with words like you paint with oils and your communications arise from sources diverse, the heights & depths. We use words everyday and forget that they are like paints with which we can channel the energies of our creations, our destructions. In the beginning there was the word. What is the word? The word is the idea. The idea is the highest level, it is God’s level. The Word was God; it is the ultimate consciousness and from it the whole universe is formed. In a poem, the words are the skeleton, the passion and source are the flesh and breath.

Sensuality. I have been afraid of sensuality because of what lies within the word itself: the senses that can steal us from ourselves, from clarity. But, I know I want to keep myself close to the light. I know my heart is steadfast in its position, in its commitment to the positive, true, and upright. I want to channel the creations. Lucidity is the most precious gift and from it all else can flow. So, I will strive to put my sensuality in service of my higher self, my senses directed by my heart. I do not want to flee or fear the temporal and evocative beauty of life, I just want to accept it and experience with a pure heart. I want to appreciate and understand it as a manifestation of the energetic and spiritual. I want to say yes to life. So, I will step forward into the mysterious terrain of the artistic, continually cultivating my discernment and affirming my dedication to the brightest.

I think I’ll join you! I always need to remind myself that my art is important. It is my way of showing, telling, communicating. Thank you for reminding me! :)

The fastest way to spiritual growth is through our emotional body.

Poetry and art in general awaken our emotions, they are like a vehicle able to transport our heart and our spirit further towards the light.

Sensuality is such a gift, an absolutely great path to connecting with the Divine.  So next time someone asks you, “How do you feel?” … You can say, “esSensually well” …:)) (yes, that was a purposeful play on incorrectly spelling the word - I am making my own dictionary!)

What a beautiful way of approaching the magnitude of possibilities brought forward through the senses.  While they can definitely be the “five thieves”, they can also provide us with incredible information for enhancing and enriching our spirits.

Jessica, you are an amazingly creative and sensual woman.  Your ability to turn a phrase in a way that touches people’s hearts is astounding.  I love getting swept up (in a good way =) into your words.  Thank you for the gift of showing your creative spirit to us all.

I agree with what everyone here has said.
And so I offer some food for your senses, that it feeds the ecstasy so innately yours.

Sanctity Dwells

What is pure must become unpure.
Daily, light changes into dark,
Is purity a fact or an opinion?
Does truth reveal itself to thieves as well as kings?

There was a martyr once who’s blood flowed onto the belly of Gaia,
it rained, and wedding bells were heard.

I’ve seen men dance with flames twirling from their wrists,
Do their hearts burn with that longing?

I remember, so vividly sometimes,
running down the middle of the street, fearless,
somehow, there came a time,
when I believed it was safer to walk on the side,
always checking behind my back.

I found that the middle is where sanctity dwells.

I Remember

How can I not be overjoyed?
Blue stars from the ethers that only I can see,
They look so much like your eyes,
The face of Love,
The moon behind the clouds,
A shadow puppet,
Two lovers embrace,
They dance in the firmament,
I dance in the cool canyon breeze,
The fire in my heart is fed by thoughts of you,
I am drunk, but not drunk,
I am wide awake,
Lucid as the fig whose roots drink from the stream,
Or the double winged dragonfly that lights on my hand,
There is more that I do not know than what I know,
The more pomegranate seeds I eat the more are revealed,
The juice stains my lips,
Runs down my chin,
The sweetest nectar reminding me of you.

There is no either or…

Unbind me,
Take these shackles from my wrists,
let my swollen ankles free,
This body,
at once a prison and the holiest of holies,
Eden and Babylon both in my belly,
My breath keeps missing my heart,
I want this ember to flame,
To burn and glow from behind my eyes,
Illuminating the path before me,
A lighthouse on the shores
of the ocean of Love and Mercy.

This illusion of separateness,
It keeps me tethered in a dream,
Where a camel tries to walk on water,
And fish run thirsty on the desert floor.

Hidden,
there inside my inner smile,
A host of angels,
Oneness with wings,
I must not forget to look behind me,
A tidal wave of Love,
Drown or surf?
There is no either or…

The Wren

How can I quench this thirst?
I could drown myself and only steam would rise,
You could see me glowing in the river,
The sun and I would have a contest,
Who could make the seeds grow faster
And sleep with the moon,
The wren springs to life in my hand
And sings in my ear,
This I understand,
But these longings, they are a mystery to me,

Sensuality is absolutely beautiful - it combines the spiritual and the physical in a wonderful way! Here is a poem I wrote that illustrates this:

I hold your hand, gently squeeze it,
and I smile a smile I had not smiled in years…

I hug you like a bear,
here, now.
I rub your back as I hug,
I kiss the top of your head,
I kiss the back of your neck.

You smile…
It's a smile that gives me courage
to go on,
to move
to the next level.

I pause, many times,
to give you time
to change your mind,
again and again,
But your eyes say,
“Stay.Go on. Cowboy, take me away.”

Through my love for you,
I see the Beauty inside me more,
and so, I love myself a lot more.

Because you also see It,
and you show It to me,
I see my own Lovely Self a lot more,
and that inspires me to be even more loving, happy, abundant, strong, courageous,
and to create and bring forth into the world even more Magnificence,
thus revealing myself as even more Beauty as well as the Bringer of Beauty.

Your love gives me the courage to do this, to be this.

To do Beauty. To be Beauty.

Loving you gives me the strength to do this, to be this.

To do Love. To be Love.

And to know, experientially, and not just conceptually,
that Love is Beauty, Love is Beautiful.
